ICSE Class 10 Science has three sub subjects: Biology, Chemistry and Physics. ICSE students have to study all three subjects if they have opted for Science as a subject. All three have independent question papers of 80 marks each and 20 marks are for internal assessment.
The objective of studying Biology is to gain the knowledge of importance of plants and animals. Students are able to understand the interdependence of plants and animals. It helps students understand the importance of plants and animals in the lives of human being. The students do practical work where they observe, experiment, make inferences and record their work. The major units of Biology as per 2019 syllabus are Basic Biology, Flowering Plants, Plant Physiology, Diversity in Living organisms, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Health and Hygiene and Waste generation and management.
The objective of studying Chemistry is to understand the terms, concepts, processes, techniques and principles related to the subject. It also helps students to appreciate the importance of Chemistry in the ecosystem. Students also practically handle the equipment and various chemical reactions. The major units of Chemistry as per 2019 syllabus are Periodic Properties and variation of properties – Physical and Chemical, Chemical Bonding, Study of Acid, Bases and Salts, Analytical Chemistry, Mole Concept and Stoichiometry, Electrolysis, Metallurgy, Study of Compounds and Organic Chemistry.
The objective of studying Physics is to understand the terms, theories, laws, processes of Physics and how they impact our day to day life. It enables students to comprehend the co-relation of various things, processes and activities around us in the ecosystem. The major units of Physics as per 2019 syllabus are Measurements and Experimentation, Motion in One Dimension, Laws of Motion, Fluids, Heat and Energy, Light, Sound, Electricity and Magnetism.
